The Alpha Higher Institute of Religious Sciences (AHIRS) is an officially recognized institution approved by the Dicastery for Culture and Education and affiliated with Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram, Bengaluru. It offers students the opportunity to obtain a Baccalaureate in Religious Sciences upon successful completion of a three-year regular course at the institute.
In contrast, the Tely-Alpha Centre for Religious Science offers programs such as the Diploma in Religious Science (DRs), Bachelor’s Degree in Religious Science (BRs), Master’s Degree in Religious Science (MRs), and Research in Religious Science (DRS). These courses are primarily designed for individuals who are engaged in other work or responsibilities and are unable to attend regular classes. All certificates awarded for these programs are issued under the authority of the Centre itself.
Prospective candidates can download the application form from the Alpha website (www.alphathalassery.org) and submit it to the office either by email or by post. Alternatively, candidates may register for the course directly at the office. Applications are accepted and processed on a rolling basis by the Institute’s Admissions Office. Applicants will be notified once the admission process is completed.
For the Baccalaureate program at the Alpha Higher Institute, candidates must have completed higher secondary education (+2) with a minimum of 55% marks.
For the Diploma in Religious Science (DRs) and the Bachelor’s Degree in Religious Science (BRs) offered by the Tely-Alpha Centre, candidates must have a +2 certificate with at least 55% marks.
For the Master’s Degree in Religious Science (MRs) at the Tely-Alpha Centre, candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Theology with a minimum of 55% marks.
For the Research in Religious Science (DRS) program at the Tely-Alpha Centre, candidates must possess a Master’s degree in any secular discipline (two-year program) with at least 55% marks.

AHIRS conducts examinations in both written and oral formats, depending on the subject. All examinations are held in person; no online exams are available.
TACRS offers two modes of examination: written and online. The online option is intended for students who are unable to reach one of our study centres. However, the final decision to permit a candidate to take the examination online rests with the Controller of Examinations.
AHIRS has only one centre, located in Tellicherry.
Students enrolled in Tely-Alpha courses may change their study centre, but only with the prior consent of the Dean of Studies.

We have a library at the Alpha Institute. Please contact the office to make an appointment for access, and you may use the library at the scheduled time. You can also browse online to check the availability of books in the Alpha Library. As it is a reference library, books are not available for loan.
The library of Good Shepherd Major Seminary, Kunnoth, is also available for reference with prior booking through the Alpha Office.
The library of Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram, Bengaluru, is accessible to AHIRS students, and a library card will be issued to you.
A request for revaluation must be submitted via email. Revaluation will be carried out only after the candidate has fulfilled the necessary requirements.
AHIRS offers classes in both English and Malayalam. However, examinations, assignments, seminars, and presentations must be conducted in English.
Tely-Alpha provides two study programmes—one in Malayalam and one in English. Candidates may choose either option.
